Grain is fed into the mill with a wooden hopper at the top of the process. Gravity took care of the flow of flour and grain from then on.
I hope you enjoyed the photos. The books of the time, describe taking grain to the mill as a pleasant part of the year where farmers would bring their hard earned wheat to the mill, and talk with their other farmers, as they waited for the flour to be produced. We have seen this scene in modern Italy, where farmers meet and mingle at the mill during the olive oil milling seasons. We’ve said this before, but sometimes it feels as though there is very little new under the sun.
Salute.
