My KitchenAid Pro 600 Died

Jul 02, 2012Posted by Forno Bravo

RIP. It makes a loud whining noise, but the dough hook doesn’t go around.

I have mixed feelings about this mixer. It is 5 years old, making it a 2007 model, which was during the time when KitchenAid claimed that they had gone back to metal gears after getting a lot of bad press. On one hand, I know that I bake a lot of bread and mix a lot of larger batches of whole wheat bread โ€” which puts on a heavy load on any mixer. And it did last for 5 years of pretty consistent work. But don’t you think an expensive kitchen appliance should last longer than five years?

That said, this mixer started making a loud whining noise reasonably soon after I started using it. I even posted a YouTube video showing just how loud it was, and I had to banish the mixer to a store room off the kitchen โ€” and close the door to that room when I was using it. So I think it is fair to say that I was never really that happy with it.

I have ordered the 7 quart Cuisinart mixer from Amazon, so I have more to report on that in the future. For today, I have kneaded a batch of whole wheat oat bread. That’s real work. ๐Ÿ™‚

And finally, we use the pasta making attachment for the KitchenAid mixer, so this isn’t really good-bye.
